Video conferencing (VC) is a real-time interactive audio and visual technology that enables clinicians to provide mental health services remotely. This approach is also referenced by terms such as “telehealth,” “telemedicine,” “telebehavioral health” or “telemental health.”
Treatment delivery via VC may be a preferred method in certain circumstances, due to convenience, distance, illness, or other factors. Preliminary research studies suggest that therapeutic outcomes via VC can be equivalent to those via in-person therapy for multiple mental health issues. However, it is always important for the treating clinician to consider a variety of factors to decide if VC is an appropriate treatment modality for each individual client.
